Well, It's turkey time again and where exactly are you going to get yours. We're inviting turkey stories and will be starting with one of our very own.

My brothers and I grew up in the 1960's and 70's, when traditional families were very much the accepted norm. Mum cooked, while Dad brought home the bacon. One Christmas eve my Mum had to pop out to collect something she had ordered and knew she would be quite a while. She asked Dad if he would do her a favour. Obligingly he agreed. She instructed him that the turkey required a quarter turn every half an hour and she assumed that him being an actuary that was a simple enough instruction for him to carry out.

She could not have been more mistaken. She returned home to find him swearing and cursing, desperately pleased to see her, and........ his hands burnt to a cinder. My genius father had not thought that turning the turkey a quarter turn meant turning the roasting dish a quarter turn. He actually tried to turn the roasting hot turkey (We're talking say 250 degrees plus) itself.  It cooked beautifully, but was the weirdest shaped Christmas poultry that I have ever seen....... and my Dad never offered to help with the cooking again after that!

That story told, it is important to remember to order your turkey on time and from the right place. The supermarkets are pretty good especially if you dont have a local butcher. This week we recommend trying out the deals at our links below.
